Sizing

The highest quality hat deserves the best fit possible. Your size can easily be determined with a tape-measure or a piece of string. Simply hold the tape-measure or string around the circumference of your head, where your hat will sit. This should be just above your ears – about mid-forehead. If your measurement happens to fall between sizes, choose the larger size.

Hat Etiquette

Having all the good looks of Mr. Hat is one thing, but having the smooth manner of such a man really brings out the best in your head-wear. So here are a few tips you may want to take into account when wearing your hat.

When greeting another gentleman, it is standard practice to doff your hat. To do this, simply raise your hat very slightly from your head with your right hand (you may, of course, use your left if your right is occupied taking the arm of a lovely lady). Raise from the brim if you are sporting a stiff hat, or from the crown for a soft hat. Never forget to remove your pipe, cigar or cigarette from your mouth when doffing.

There are also occasions when a gentleman, in the comfort of indoors, should remove his hat entirely.  Most notable of these are when being introduced and when saying goodbye. It is also said that Mr. Hat will completely remove his head-wear when he talks, misty-eyed, of a lady of particular virtue.

Hat Care

Taking a little time to care for your hat will ensure its continued longevity. Rumours have it that Mr. Hat still frequently dons his first ever hat and that it is still coveted in even the most prestigious of circles.

To remove the general dirt that we all encounter in our day-to-day lives, gently brush your hat with a soft-bristled brush in an anti-clockwise direction around your hat. Tougher stains, which your hat will undoubtedly be subjected to over the course of its life, can be banished with a make-up sponge and a touch of water. If you don’t have such a sponge, a clean pencil eraser can be used. As before, ensure you clean in an anti-clockwise direction around the hat. For those rare and devilish stains, you would be wise to take your hat to a professional.

A thoroughly soaked hat is sometimes thought to be a bit of a dilemma. Legends past tell that Mr. Hat simply turns up the brim of his hat and leaves it on a flat surface, resting on a dry towel, to return it to its glorious best.

Postage

Mr. Hat wants you to receive your hats in the tip-top condition that they leave the factory in. The only way we can guarantee they don’t get damaged in the post is to box them individually. This is why we charge postage per hat, and not per order. Each of your hats will be carefully packaged and boxed, then sent to you using Royal Mail First Class. (And try not to worry too much about that extra packaging… it’s all recyclable.)
